Ariana Grande opened up to her new co-star on The Voice while appearing on Monday’s episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show.
The 28-year-old pop superstar was asked by Kelly, 39, about the first time she ever moved to Los Angeles as her talk show was celebrating the nation’s second-largest city this week.
‘The first time I came to LA was for my Victorious callback. I was so nervous, but so excited,’ said Ariana, referencing the Nickelodeon series that she starred in from March 2010 to February 2013.
‘I was really young. I was 14, but I had never been here until my callback. And then my mom was like, ”Do you think you could really do this? We’ll get a place, should we get an apartment?”,’ Ariana said.
Ariana noted that they waited ‘a long time’ between callbacks and that she and her mom were staying in a H๏τel.
‘She was like, ”Should we just get an apartment? Do you think you’re going to get this thing?” And I was like, ”I hope so. I have no idea”,” Ariana recalled.
‘Thank god,’ she said of landing the role of Cat Valentine in Victorious. ‘Because what if I didn’t get it and then she was like, ”Well we have this lease for the next six months”.’
Ariana appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show ahead of making her debut as a judge on season 21 of The Voice along with Kelly, Blake Shelton, 45, and John Legend, 42.
Blake won season 20 of the NBC singing compeтιтion show with Cam Antony, 20.
The country star has been a judge on The Voice since its premiere in April 2011 and has won a leading eight times.
Ariana replaced Nick Jonas, 29, as a judge for her debut season.
She received a standing ovation from The Kelly Clarkson Show audience and a warm hug from Kelly as she sat down for an interview.
Kelly informed her audience that Ariana’s fans were also quite vocal while taping The Voice.
